I see where SmallHD is going. Their products have always been super reliable, and the customer service is fantastic. SmallHD has to go towards the premium market for RED, SONY, and Canon Cinema Users. All of their products are now unibody aluminum, which is not cheap to manufacture. There is still a need for competition, but the market under $1000 is now a hot space. I do feel like the Indie 5 should have been $899.
The resell value of these monitors will be good. I had a smallHD indie 7, bought for $800 used on adorma. Sold it two years later for $1,200. During the time I bought it, it was going for $1,000. As of today it retails for $1,400.
Former Cine 5 owner's perspective. Fantastically capable software on poorly QC'd, overpriced hardware. I wouldn't mind the premium price if these were constructed out of more reliable and durable materials. My suggestions to Small HD are stop using plastic parts, make sure touchscreens work before shipping, and pay attention to detail during assembly.
Basically the old models with less features for more money. Ultrabright 503 had more nits for less money than the Cine5 and the Focus Pro was less money than the Indie 5 but with lemo connection and SDI. No Wifi Control for RED or Arri out of the box for all of them? Wireless control just for the Ultra 5 with Bolt at 3k? Owning a Cine 7 with Bolt and knowing that professional needs reliable tools - and you are willing to pay for that reliability on a set...but... would have been nice to see a decent 5 inch on board monitor happening this year at SmallHD - with lemo and sdi at 2000 nits something + Wifi Control...The indie 5 is just limited so people jump to the Cine 5. Such a bad move... Really hoped to see some innovation at Smallhd after some Chinese brands build a 2200 Nit Monitor with Wifi Control...for 800 bucks. This lineup seems an odd choice imho.
£1.5k here in the UK just for the Indie 5, for a 5" inch 1000nit monitor is unbelievably disgusting and you still need to buy the control Licenses separately, I want to stay with SmallHD for life but they have completely out-priced me, you can't buy it not feeling cheated when the whole marketing is offering cheaper monitors for more nits and there is absolutely not a reason in the world why the Indie 5 and Cine 5 can't both be 2000nits, I bet you every penny in my account the panels are the same just limited in software. SmallHD 502B's, and 702's sell like hotcakes on eBay because they are so thought after and so much more affordable but practically just as good, It's an unbelievable shame that SmallHD refuses to sell their original 702 and 502b monitors at a more affordable price without the Smart camera control features and without being skins and bones like the Action 5.
I feel you. Small HD just lost it. I was supporting their products since 10 years and was looking for a 5 inch solution all year - the Smart 5 lineup is just greedy and outdated in terms of functionality. Why would anyone buy the indie 5 - there is no reason to get a battery powered monitor with 1000 Nits at this price. 😂
Looks like Small HD has discontinued it's other 5" monitors that were financially accessible. Now we just have these $1300 5" monitors to 'choose' from? The only way I see myself buying one of these is if it provides full touch functionality of camera control... for my Sony Alpha and FX cameras.
It's free monitoring with your mobile device with 0.0001 sec delay. Thanks smallHD but no thanks. Red have made it easy to connect the komodo already owned devices out there

Yup, too expensive to compete with the others below $800. Should've been priced at $849 / $1,299 / $1,799

Any new monitors from atomos? I'm about to buy one:)
Atomos currently works perfectly with the Shinobi 7 and Ninja V monitors. They don't really plan to release a new copy right now...
